ISO 9001:2015 Quality Certification for the Soft Scientific and Technical Service at ICMAB and Unit 6/Nanbiosis

The aim of the quality certification obtained is to ensure the quality of the service provided and to continue with its improvement and extension to future services.

The Scientific and Technical Service for the characterization of nano and biomaterials, the Soft Lab, run by the Nanomol Research Unit of the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB, CSIC), and which is part of Unit 6 of the ICTS Nanbiosis, and CIBER-BBN, aims to offer characterization services of micro- and nanostructured soft molecular materials to the entire scientific community that requires them.

Congratulations! ICMAB is the first H2020 CSIC Institute

ICMAB is number one of the entire CSIC in securing funding from the H2020 European Research and Innovation Framework Programme. It represents 8 % of the total CSIC H2020 funding and 49 % of the Materials Area. In total, 4 CSIC Institutes in Catalunya are among the top 6.

M. Rosa Palacín awarded with the International Battery Association (IBA) Research Award

The ICMAB Deputy Director and Researcher, M. Rosa Palacín, receives this award for her significant contributions to battery research. The award comes in the context of the 2021 International Battery Association (IBA) Annual Meeting which will be celebrated on 24-29 October 2021 in Xiamen, China, an event that will bring together experts in the fields of electrochemistry, materials chemistry and energy chemistry, mathematical science and other battery related fields.

ICMAB Researcher M. Rosa Palacín, from the Solid State Chemistry (SSC) Group receives the IBA Research Award for her outstanding contributions and advances in electrochemical energy conversion and storage research.

The "Matheroes" project selected as an innovative action by FECYT

We are happy to announce that FECYT has selected the "Matheroes: Supermaterials, the heroes of the future" project to be part of the eighth edition of the catalog of "Innovative practices in scientific culture". 

The "Innovative practices in scientific culture" catalog includes a selection of activities that FECYT (Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología) has considered as unique in science outreach and science communicatin. It includes innovative and high quality actions that highlight for some of their aspects: their new formats, the strategic objectives they pursue, the specific public they are aimed at, their high impact on the participants, the invomvement of scientific and non-scientific agents, to name a few.

Nanomol Group renews the TECNIO certification for the next four years

The Nanomol Group has renewed the TECNIO certification, which accredits the Reserach Group as a Technology Developer Organization for the period 2020-2023. The TECNIO certification is created by the Government of Catalonia, through ACCIÓ
 
The TECNIO certification supports the most qualified agents involved in technology transfer processes, allows companies to access advanced R&D and develop new products and services, and increases the scope of technology projects by finding the most suitable technology partners & suppliers.

Lídia Ballell, Poster Prize at the SCN2 II Annual Conference of Nanomedicine

Lídia Ballell, PhD fellow doing her research between the Nanomol Group at ICMAB and the company Nanomol Technologies, won the Poster Prize award at the SCN2 II Annual Conference of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology celebrated on 19 November 2020 and focused on the latest advances on nanobiomedicine. Lídia Ballell's poster was entitled "Delos nanovesicles for drug delivery: an example of reformulation of a protein to treat complex wounds".

Artur Romanov awarded at the Applied Superconducivity Conference 2020

The Applied Superconductivity Conference 2020 conference awarded Artur Romanov, PhD researcher at the SUMAN group, on 5 November 2020, the third prize in the materials section of the Student Paper Contest and additonally the Alexander Shikov memorial award for design and manufacturing of "LTS and HTS Conductors".

Mariona Coll and Ignasi Fina awarded with a Leonardo Grant (BBVA) to develop innovative and sustainable scientific projects

Nanomedicine: from the ICMAB to an award-winning high-school research project

In the framework of the XXXII Chemistry Debate of the IEC (Institut d'Estudis Catalans), the Catalan Chemical Society (SCQ) awarded, on 16 September 2020, the certificates and awards of the 14th edition of the Research Projects Awards in Chemistry for high school students. One of the finalists of the awards, Arnau Garcia Labaila, did a project on nanomedicine to face cancer, supervised by one of the first PhD fellows graduated at the ICMAB Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Lab, Dr. Mar Abad Merino

Open call for L'Oreál-UNESCO "For Women in Science" 2020 awards

In its 15th edition, the L'Oréal-UNESCO "For Women in Science" awards five prizes of 15,000 euros each to support research projects carried out by Spanish women scientists in the area of Physical Sciences, Mathematics and/or Computer and Information Sciences. The deadline for application will remain open until 13 September 2020. These should be done through the official website "For Women in Science".

Best Poster Prize for Enrique Pascual at the #HOPV20 Online Conference

The 12th International Conference on Hybrid and Organic Photovoltaics #HOPV20 was an online conference held beween 26 and 29 May 2020. Enrique Pascual, PhD fellow at the Nanopto Group, received the Best ePoster Content and Discussion award at the Symposium S4 on Organic Solar Cells. His poster was entitled "Towards Photovoltaic Windows: Laser-assisted Fabrication of Semitransparent OPV Modules Based on Non-fullerene Acceptors’". Congratulations!

Manuel Souto, honored with the European Award on Molecular Magnetism Doctoral Thesis

Manuel Souto, former PhD researcher at the Nanomol Group, has been awarded with the European Award for Doctoral Thesis in Molecular Magnetism (ADocMolMag) call 2019, organised by the European Institute of Molecular Magnetism, for his PhD Thesis "Multifunctional Materials based on TTFPTM dyads: towards new Molecular Switches, Conductors and Rectifiers" carried out at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Congratulations, Manuel!

PhD Extraordinary Awards go to four ICMAB Graduates

Four ICMAB graduates have been awarded by the UAB with the PhD Extraordinary Award for their doctoral thesis, developed during the period 2016-2017: Bernhard Dörling in the field of Physics, Laura González and Magdalena Kierkowicz in the field of Materials Science, and Elena Oleshkevich in the field of Chemistry. Congratulations!

Elena Oleshkevich, ICMAB graduate, awarded with the "Producto del Año 2020" innovation award

Elena Oleshkevich, previous PhD fellow supervised by Clara Viñas at the LMI group, and currently working at the Norwegian company Jotun, has been awarded with one of the "Producto del Año 2020" awards for the industrial project "Majestic Pure Color" paint, selected as the best innovative product of 2020 in the sector of coatings and paintings.

Iván Caño and Remei Escudero: 2nd and 3rd prize at the SCN2 Dresselhaus Awards for ther research works

Iván Caño and Remei Escudero, former Bachelor Students in Physics and Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the UAB, have won, respectively, the 2nd and 3rd prize of the Dresselhaus Awards, organized by the Catalan Society of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (SCN2). The two students had to defend their work by presenting a poster to a jury formed by PhD fellows of related fields.
