Banner for Nanoday 2021
The Annual Nanotechnology Day is an annual celebration that happens around October 9th. Many organizations prepare events and activities to celebrate the field of Nanotechnology, how it is currently used in products that enrich our daily lives, and the challenges and opportunities it holds for the future. This date, 10/9, pays homage to the nanometer scale, 10–9 meters. The initiative was born in the USA but the day is being celebrated worldwide.
Virtual event: NanoDay
This year, theFundació Catalana per la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRI)organizes many talks in celebration of this day, in line with their function within the Catalan research ecosystem to disseminate Catalan research and innovation, as well as improving scientific vocation and the relationship between the public and scientific sectors.
The Nanoday event organized by FCRI will be celebrated virtually on 14 October 2021, and will start with a state of the art introduction including a welcome event, keynote presentations, roundtables, and the presentation of the ACCIÓ: La Nanotecnologia a Catalunya report, and the Llibre Blanc de les Nano (White Book on Nano).
It will be followed up by 4 concurrent events covering 4 key topics in the design of nanotechnology: Food, Health, Cosmetics and Water. The full event will be available on streamingand you can see any of the events live via YouTube.
The Health roundtable will be moderated by Àlex Argemí from the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), and amongst the invited speakers are ICMAB Researcher Imma Ratera, from the Molecular Nanoscience and Organic Materials (NANOMOL) Group, who will cover the development of new bioactive materials to achieve effective therapies and diagnosis, as well as Santi Sala, from NANOMOL Technologies, who will cover the DELOS nanoformulation technology as a key element for the development of new drugs.
The Scientific Equipment making nanotechnology possible
A lot of very specialized tools are required in order to characterize, design and synthesize nanometric materials. Discovers the tools and technicians that allow ICMAB Researchers to develop the materials of the future in our latest video!
Our Scientific Equipment Platforms are open for our researchers, and also for exernal researchers, from other research institutes, universities, spin offs, technology centers and companies. Please take a look at the Scientific Equipment Platform website to see all of them and book an appointment!
Doctor Laura Rodríguez from the Functional materials and surfaces (FunNanoSurf) and Solid State Chemistry (SSC) Group (ICMAB-CSIC), defended her PhD thesis titled "Synthesis and characterization of curcuminoids and their derived polymeric systems" on Friday, 22 September 2021 in a hybrid session. Congrats!
Doctor Jan Grzelak, from the Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites (NN) Group (ICMAB-CSIC), defended his PhD thesis titled "Magnetic and fluorescent mesoporous silica nanorods towards liver theranostic uses" on Friday, 22 September, 2021 in a hybrid session. Congrats!
